Terrible Twos

Mum has concluded that Pebbles has been going through the ‘Terrible twos’. Human children go through a phase when they start pushing the boundaries and realise they can be a little bit independent. That’s the terrible twos! Well, we dogs go through it as well. Different breeds mature at different rates and Mum has always said that in our breed it happens at around six months of age. For the couple of weeks before and after that age, we pretend to know nothing. Now, in fairness, Pebbles didn’t know a huge amount before, but you’ll remember that poor Mum had a couple of weeks at training when Pebbles would not do anything. This week, she was back in the room – as much as Pebbles ever is.

Nicer walks

Mum has had some nicer walks with her too. Pebbles has been happy to trot along having a good sniff and generally cooperating. She isn’t jumping up to chew the lead as much and isn’t pulling Mum madly in all directions.

Don’t get me wrong – there is still a very long way to go. Pebbles still has the attention span of a goldfish and the activity level of a whirling dervish. However, Mum felt a small tingle of hope. I remain unconvinced. The point at which she will treat me with a little respect will be when I start to have faith that she’s actually the same breed as me.

Teenage

We will still have teenage to get through, but that won’t be for another 9 months or so. Hopefully by then Pebbles will have learnt some manners and will have at least a little impulse control. If she doesn’t then I can’t begin to imagine how many bruises Mum will have – you can play join the dots on the ones she’s got now.

Love and licks
