Salivary glands – Tuesday 16th December 2025

Salivary glands

It is Pebbles’ salivary glands which are swollen. The vet said he had no idea why. Her medication shouldn’t cause it and she doesn’t seem to be in pain. We have to monitor her over the next couple of weeks and if she gets worse she will need fine needle aspiration to see what is going on. As she doesn’t stop moving, that will need her to be sedated, so we’re really hoping they just go down to normal size and we don’t have to do anything more.

Pebbles at the vet office

Her time in the vet office was very wearing for Mum. Pebbles was so excited to see all the people and all the dogs. She just wanted to say hello to them all – for ‘hello’ I mean she wanted to jump all over them. An elderly terrier made clear he wanted her to go away, but as usual she was clueless. Mum had taken lots of cheese to keep Pebbles occupied and that definitely helped.

Fortunately Mum was able to hold Pebbles down by her harness to stop her lunging at the vet while he tried to examine her. He didn’t seemed fazed by her, which helped.

Some good news

Mum went to the garden centre after the vet, just to buy some wrapping paper. She left Pebbles in the car. Because of Pebbles’ tendency to scream the place down when she’s left, Mum parked in the furthest corner of the car park. As Pebbles doesn’t usually scream for too long, Mum normally locks the car and then stands a little distance away until Pebbles calms down a bit, before she goes into the shop. Yesterday, Pebbles didn’t scream at all. She was completely quiet as Mum walked away. She was still quiet when Mum came back. It might sound a small thing, but Mum is delighted as it means she will be able to take Pebbles more often when she goes out.
