Getting in shape – Monday 26th January 2026

Getting in shape

So far Mum’s getting in shape is not going to plan. She has put weight on and pulled a muscle in her shoulder. I did say to her that my own approach of napping on the nearby chair was working at least as well as her method and she can’t really argue with it. According to Mum, this week is going to be different and she’s going to stop snacking. I reminded her that she never succeeds on that score until May. Every year is the same. January is just too gloomy for us not to want to keep having the odd nibble to keep us going. Deep down, she knows I’m right, but she will insist on this charade of trying to break the cycle. I will go back to napping in the chair and watch through a half-raised eyelid every so often. Then I’ll smile to myself when she proves me right.

Not an ounce of fat

Pebbles, on the other paw, doesn’t have an ounce of fat on her. It doesn’t seem to matter how many extra treats mum gives her or how much cheese she gets through at training, Pebbles can work all of it off and still come back begging for more. I don’t think I could do that even when I was young. From what I can remember, I’ve always only had to look at food to put weight on. Mum put me on diet food for years and still I wasn’t as slim as Pebbles,

Mum said it’s about burning off nervous energy and that Pebbles may find it harder as she gets older in any case. There’s a part of me that hopes she does – other wise it just isn’t fair. Mum says I have other things going for me and that I’m beautiful just as I am, but I can’t help being a little bit jealous.

Love and licks
