Wilma’s Ashes – Saturday 26th September 2026

Wilma’s Ashes

We brought Wilma’s ashes home yesterday. Mum was really upset. She said that up until now it’s almost been as though Wilma is in kennels and she could go to collect her at any point. Now it seems more final.

Meltdown

While Mum was cutting the grass she had a complete meltdown. The grass in the orchard is really long, so she mowed Wilma’s name into it. You can’t really see in the photo as Mum mowed really big letters that went right through the orchard. She said that wherever Wilma is now, she hoped she would look down and see her name. The picture is the letters I and L from the middle of Wilma.

When Mum had done it, she got Dad to come out and look. When she showed it to him she just broke down and sobbed. I didn’t know what to do. I rolled around on my back on the ground, wrapping myself around her leg to try to make her laugh, but she said she didn’t want to laugh just then.

I was good

I was good yesterday and tried to make up for the day before. I had a really good walk, but I’ll tell you all about that tomorrow. Today I’m having a home day, which is fine too. I’m going to help Dad in the garden this afternoon. He doesn’t know yet – that is, he doesn’t know he’s gardening yet, rather than he doesn’t know I’m helping. Mum is going to see Granny and has asked me to supervise Dad starting to bring in some of the apples. I can do that. I just hope that Dad’s up to the challenge. I’d hate to have to explain to Mum that I failed in my assigned duties.
