My Pine Tree – Saturday 17th October 2026

My Pine Tree

Mum has finally finished planting my pine tree. She said it was hard work digging deep enough. I did try explaining that the problem is she does it all wrong, but she says her fingers and toes just aren’t as good at digging at my paws. I think she just needs more practice. She is also too soft, so I guess using a spade will have to remain her preferred method.

On the plus side, Mum has promised I can have fairy lights on it for the winter, just as soon as she gets them all out of the cupboard. There will be spare ones this year as the arbour blew down so won’t be needing any. I just hope my tree doesn’t blow down too. Mum says she has put a stake in and she thinks it will be fine.

The best part of my day

The best part of my day is the evening. Mum and Dad have understood that one of the things that keeps me calm is feeling completely safe and loved. We have developed a routine where 8pm is my special time. Both Mum and Dad sit down with me for an hour before bed and are totally available to cuddle me. Ok, so sometimes I wonder off and chew my bone while they talk to each other or watch Celebrity Traitors, but I can jump back onto the chair with them for some more attention at any point. I always start by snuggling up close with them both and it really does do me good.

Dad has to go away for work next week and I’m going to really miss him. Having both him and Mum gives me a lovely sense of stability. It does make me realise I’m a lucky dog.
