My turn – Saturday 11th February 2023

My turn

Yesterday it was my turn to go to the vet. I’d really only gone to have my kennel cough vaccination, but I thought I’d ask about a couple of concerns while I was there. Most importantly, I got on the scales and my weight is just right. Of course Wilma wasn’t impressed when I told her that. I had a bit of a manicure, but the vet said there wasn’t much he could take off. It was the lump on my leg that wasn’t quite so straightforward.

What a pair

Yes, I know I’ve been telling you about Wilma’s lump, but I’ve got one too. Mine is different in nature to Wilma and is on my heel. I thought it was just a wart and was expecting the vet to agree with me. Unfortunately, he didn’t. He said it might be best to check it, so I had to have several needles stuck into it to draw off cells. That means now I’m waiting for results too. Hopefully mine will turn out to be nothing.

Photo of Wilma

Wilma has finally agreed to let me take a photo of her leg. She is feeling very self-conscious about it and doesn’t want to talk about it. It’s going be quite a while before it all looks normal again. I guess with them having to cut some of the muscle it’s going to be a bit misshapen for a while. Poor old Wilma. She’s only got two more days of crate rest and will then start to build up her strength in it again. Mum has told her not to overdo it right at the start but given she’s lived with our breed for the last seventeen years she knows she’s wasting her breath.

Vegetable troughs

Mum and I spent some time yesterday afternoon starting to fill my new vegetable troughs with compost. It’s going to take us a very long time. We put cardboard down first to suppress the grass and then worked our way through three barrow loads of compost. We’ve hardly made an impression on the first trough. It didn’t help that we had to pump the tyres up on the wheelbarrow first. Mum said we’ll do some more this afternoon and keep working on it. I might leave her to it for a while.
