Ready for my operation – Wednesday 12th June 2024

Ready for my operation

I’m ready for my operation. Mum brought me to the hospital for midday yesterday. We were both fairly stressed. I did a lot of barking, Mum not so much. I was very pleased to find that, with my appointment being at midday, Mum had remembered to bring my lunch with me, so I wasn’t hungry when I went in to see my consultant. Sensibly, Mum decided that we’d wait outside as I was upsetting some of the other dogs and humans in the waiting room. I was upsetting Mum too, but that was different.

Seeing my consultant

Mum came in with me to see my consultant. It’s always good to have someone there at a time like that. When we’re stressed we don’t always remember everything we’re told. Mum had to sign some paperwork for me too. I had quite a few questions I wanted to ask. I wanted to know what time my operation is scheduled for today and how long would it take. There is a hip replacement ahead of me in the queue, but I should go down for surgery about midday. I have to have my preop and things ahead of the actual surgery, but it should start around 1pm and will take two to three hours. After that I have to have a CT scan to make sure everything is in the right place before it will be over.

Board and lodging

Obviously, one of the things close to my heart was food and drink while I’m in hospital. My consultant asked what I normally eat. ‘Royal Canin’ Mum said, at the same time that I said ‘Steak and ice cream’. Apparently, they do have all sorts in stock including steak to help encourage animals to eat if they have a problem. If only I were like Aristotle and able to refuse food until something better was offered to me.

I was pleased that Mum at least remembered to mention my bedtime Bonio. I’d hate to have to go to bed feeling peckish.

Love

Wilma
