Farewell to my homeland
We have said farewell to my homeland for another trip. Switzerland gave us a perfect send off. The sky couldn’t have been bluer, the fields greener or the weather better. It was an utterly perfect day.
My trip to the vet wasn’t so perfect. Oh the vet was lovely, it was me that was the problem. A dog barked at me before I went in and looked at me strangely. Well that was me on edge and I barked my way through the whole vet visit. Fortunately, in Switzerland the vet just shrugs and says ‘it’s the breed’. When it happens in England it is far harder on Mum as no one actually recognises the breed ,and if they do have little idea what to expect of us.
My mountain
After the vet, we went up to my mountain so I could let me fur down. I am going to miss running with Valeria so much. I need Mum to ring round all my friends in England to see if they are free for walks. It made me realise how much I am looking forward to getting a puppy, although it will be a while before my puppy is able to run for as long as I’d like them to.
The running has done me good. I weighed myself at the vet and I’m down to 24.5kg including my harness. I don’t remember the last time I was as light as that. It’s been years – not since before we moved to a house with an orchard.
The journey home
We started the journey home just after lunch yesterday, Friday afternoons on the motorway are never good, so it was a slow start. We drove as far as a place called Guémar in France. We’re staying in what is basically a shed in someone’s garden. Mum says it’s more of a log cabin than a shed, but you get the picture. It’s small but perfectly formed and we have everything we need.
The village of Guémar is really very old so we had a walk into the centre to have a look. Mum was making me walk nicely to heel, which meant I didn’t take any photos. It had some wonderful old walls which thousands of dogs before me had peed on. It made for some interesting smells to sniff.
