Over the Brünig – Friday 13th December 2024

Over the Brünig

Today we are driving over the Brünig. Mum doesn’t really like the mountain pass roads at the best of times, but it is the quickest way to get to see my sister Tosca if you start from where we are. The last few days have been dry, so the road conditions are better than they were. When Mum looked earlier in the week the road was icy, now it should be relatively dry and the road should be clear. I think Mum will do a final check before we leave and as long as there is no change we will go that way. We do have snow chains if we need them, but Mum says she nearly took her thumb off on the one occasion she tried to fit them, so she’s not keen. Besides, they have been sitting in the shed for several years, so she wonders if they are ok.

Mountain Passes

There is a wonderful website HERE where you can see which passes are open and what the weather conditions are. When we looked last night it was only minus five the way we are going, but some of the passes are as cold as minus fifteen and closed!

Mum said that when she went to the museum of Swiss history it was really interesting when they were talking about merchants and pilgrims going over the mountain passes. Because of how scary some of them were back in the 1300s, some people went over blindfolded as they’d rather not see. Mum said she thought they must have been insane and you wouldn’t have got her doing that – or in fact going anywhere near them. I can see her point.

Saying goodbye

I had to say goodbye to my sister Valeria and my friend Megan yesterday. Hopefully I will see them both on my next trip. Goodness knows what they will make of Pebbles. Now when we go for walks we are all my age and older. Having an annoying puppy around might not go down well with any of us. I do hope it will be ok.

On the bright side, although I had a good bark at the vet, it was only because I was celebrating having lost another 0.3kg. I was very proud of myself for that. I might lose the last couple of kilos I’ve been trying to shift yet. Mind you, on our walk I did eat everything I could find so that I didn’t waste away. We didn’t go up to my mountain as it was foggy up there. We had a lower level walk instead. It would have been nice to find somewhere above the clouds, but it would have meant going quite high up.

Now I’m excited about seeing Tosca later and then starting my journey home to see Dad. I do miss him when I go away without him.

Love

Wilma
