On the plus side

On the plus side the lack of rain means that the garden is not growing as fast as it did last year. Of course, on the minus side it also means one or two things may be dead or dying. The thought of planting drought resistant plants is all well and good, but the problem areas of the garden are the same ones which have flooded for that last two years. What plants are both drought resistant and flood tolerant? Probably not many. At least not ones that also might get cold in the winter. Mum says it would be easier if the whole garden was just trees and grass, which sounds remarkably like what it might have been like before someone turned it into a garden.

Keeping Pebbles Occupied

Keeping Pebbles occupied is not proving very easy for Mum. Pebbles is, as you know, hyperactive. She can’t have free run of the whole garden due to next door’s rotten fence. She can’t be left in her outside pen for too long due to the heat. Mum can’t take her for a walk. Mum can’t even sit outside with her for extended periods as the tablets she’s on say she must keep out of direct light even if cloudy.

As you can imagine, Pebbles has consumed more Kongs, pizzles, chews and bones than would be normal for a puppy. Thankfully, she’s enjoying them and is being relatively cooperative. Mum is promising to make it up to both of us, just as soon as she’s well enough. It’s going to be another few days at least, the way things are going, but I’ve got my paws crossed. I think Dad is going to do another test today to see if he is negative yet, but he’s not optimistic.
