Wilma is home

Wilma is home. More accurately, I’m home and I’m dictating this. I think I’ll be back at work sooner than I thought. I can see all right but my eye and face are very uncomfortable at the moment. As I was first on the list for surgery, I went down for my operation about nine-thirty yesterday. Apparently, it took longer than expected because I have a more muscular face than a lot of dogs. It made it harder to move the gland concerned to the right place. One unexpected upside was that the surgeon removed the wart on my cheek at the same time.

Coming round

When I came round from the anaesthetic I got a bit upset. I’d been under for longer than many operations and was more disorientated. There was no one I knew and I had a bit of a panic. Anyway, my blood pressure shot up and I had to be given a bit of sedative to help me cope. After that things became easier and Mum picket me up about 2pm.

The journey home wasn’t much fun with a cone on in a crate again. When I got home I said hello to Dad, but then just wanted to go for a bit of a sleep.

Cold compress

Mum is applying cold compresses to my cheek to help take down some of the swelling and also some pressure to stop any bleeding from my eye or inside my cheek. The vet explained what was needed and said as long as Mum could do it without being bitten. Honestly, what a thing to say. If Mum is trying to help me I’m hardly like to bite her, even if it hurts a bit. We have a real bond of trust.

On the bright side, I only have one eye drop in my right eye now, twice a day and even that may stop if things have worked well. I still have all the drops for my left eye at the moment, so I’m not free of all that.

I have to update the surgeon on Monday, unless there are any problems sooner and then will need to go to see him in two weeks. Paws crossed that progress is good.

Love and licks

Wilma
