A quiet day – Tuesday 30th September 2025

A quiet day

Yesterday, Mum and I had a quiet day. We just wanted to sit quietly together on my mountain. Sadly, we’ve both concluded it may be difficult for me to travel in future and we’re both a bit down about that. I’ve been Mum’s sidekick since I was a puppy. Where she went, I went. Where I went, she went. I’m never more than a paw’s distance away if I can possibly help it – even when she’s on the loo or in the shower.

Anyway, Dad went with my sister and her human up the steepest cog railway in the world to get to a mountain top. Mum and I didn’t fancy that. For one thing it was far too peopley for either of our likings and for another, Mum doesn’t like steep mountain trains – she gets a ‘little’ anxious – even when I’m there to help. So we dropped Dad and drove to my mountain.

Where heaven and earth meet

Mum says the only way she can describe how special my mountain is, is to describe it as the place where heaven and earth meet. I can see what she means, but I don’t suppose there’s so much muck spreading in heaven and it did smell quite bad when we were there yesterday. We had to walk to the topmost seat of the ones we use before we stopped for our lunch. Mum said until she was away from the smell she didn’t feel all that hungry.

There is something special about having a picnic in your favourite place. We sat watching the clouds drift by and just snuggling up on the bench. A red kite was on the ground just in front of us, the bird not the toy. When it flew off it was amazing to see its wing span.

Anyway, we got back in time to pick Dad up, and he’d had a lovely day too, so everyone was happy.

Love and licks
