Wilma is still in hospital – Wednesday 19th August 2026

Wilma is still in hospital

Wilma is still in hospital and not just because I haven’t gone to kennels yet. Her blood sugar dropped suddenly yesterday, so she isn’t as stable as the vets hoped. She was a little dehydrated again too, even though she’s drinking well. Mum went to see her in the afternoon and said she is brighter, but quite weak. She ate a whole meal of her normal food, even though she’d only just eaten. I asked if I could have tea twice, but Mum said no to me.

Anyway, whether she comes home depends on how stable she has been since yesterday. She will also need to have a wearable blood sugar monitor fitted before it’s safe to be out of hospital. Mum ordered one yesterday which should arrive this morning. The vet then needs to fit it before Wilma comes home.

Careful monitoring

The vet has now sent the special blood test off to the lab to find if there’s an insulinoma. It could take a few days to hear back. If it’s clear then no one knows what the cause is. Mum will need to monitor Wilma until her blood sugar is completely stable. I don’t think Mum is planning to leave her side for longer than necessary, even though the vet said two to three hours at a time should be ok.

Off to kennels

I’ve packed to go to kennels. To be honest I’m quite glad to go. I hate wearing pants and I won’t need them there. Mum got cross when I ate one of my pants pads. She said we don’t need me being ill again. What I don’t know yet is if I’m supposed to be taking the computer to write the diary or if Wilma will need it at home.

I’m sure one of us will do it, but I’m hoping to be too busy playing.
