Learning the language
For a puppy and their new human it’s all about learning the language. Mum is trying to learn what Pebbles means when she says things and Pebbles is trying to learn what Mum’s words mean. It’s a two-way process. What has been exciting for Mum is that for the first time Pebbles is starting to let her know when she wants to go out. Not all the time, that would be too much to hope for, but she’s definitely trying. On Pebbles’ part, she is learning heel, sit, come and wait. She already knows her name, obviously. She also knows some odd words like sloth. That’s because Mum always says Sloth’s name when she puts him into bed with Pebbles. It’s kind of cute, but if you tell Pebbles to go to Sloth she trots into her bedtime crate.

Parkour for dogs
Pebbles is going to spend her life scaring us all, if the current pattern continues. She climbs onto the chair and then jumps from chair to chair around the garden room without touching the floor. Occasionally she just falls off the edge but just picks herself up and clambers back on. What really scared Mum was when Mum got up to go out of the room and Pebbles tried following her by going straight over the back of the settee. Mum caught her just in time so she didn’t fall. It does mean that Pebbles can’t have quite so much freedom as she’d hoped for at this stage.

Mum has also discussed with Dad the fact that Pebbles will probably benefit from going to more than one training class in a week. Actually, I think we’re all agreed on that one. She starts her puppy classes on Tuesday, but Mum is going to talk to them about signing her up for a second weekly class or maybe one of the dog sports. They offer something called Hoopers which might be an option and then monthly have a rally class.
