Four Minutes – Sunday 26th October 2025

Four minutes

Mum’s lie in yesterday lasted all of four minutes. I didn’t mean to wake Pebbles. I thought I was being quiet, but it turned out I wasn’t quiet enough. Mum looked longingly at her bed as she got out of it, but realised there was little chance of getting back in. She has explained to me, at length about the clocks changing and that means she gets an extra hour in bed. She has begged me not to get her up early. I’m sure it would be better if she didn’t say anything about it, then I might not try so hard. Trying always goes wrong.

My eye

I had quite a bad day with my eye yesterday. It’s actually the one that has been operated on. For some reason it wasn’t staying moist and was quite closed up. On the bright side it did mean Mum gave me a couple of the stuffed Kongs, in the hope that chewing would help lubricate my eye. If it’s still bad when Mum looks later on she’s going to book to take me to see the specialist to see if there’s a problem. We’re both quite worried about it.

Apples galore

You just wouldn’t believe how many apples there are falling off our trees. Every time Mum and I clear some up, more come down. Actually, with it being windy yesterday we were having to avoid being hit by them when we were working underneath. They kept making me jump as they hit the ground. It’s almost enough to put a girl off her munching. On the bright side, all the bangs as they hit the ground are probably preparing us for bonfire night. It’s not usually too bad where we live, but it will be Pebbles’ first time, so we’re not really sure how she’ll react. Mum generally keeps us indoors, just in case. They always remind me of Aristotle and how much he used to enjoy watching them from the big window in our office when we lived in Yorkshire. That all seems a long time ago now.
