Puppy training

Pebbles is off to her puppy training class today. I guess now she’s over a year old I probably ought to call it dog training, but she’s definitely still the puppy of the family. If only the exercises she had to do were the things she enjoyed then Mum’s life would be so much easier. It’s not just the actual activities she’s not keen on, it’s the order they do them in. At the start of a lesson Pebbles can manage some level of concentration. On that basis she’d really like to try doing her ‘stay’ at the start of class. Instead they always do it at the end and by then Pebbles has lost any ability to stay anywhere for more than a millisecond.

Mum despairs

Mum despairs of their being any hope of Pebbles passing any of her certificates. She does not like loose lead walking. Anything can happen when she’s asked to wait and her stay is non-existent. Don’t even get me started on her totally failure to come when called.

If they wanted to assess whether she can stand on blocks, or a wobble cushion then she’d ace it. She can go under chairs, jump higher than any dog I know and, as I told you yesterday, will use a doorbell and bring her toys back on command. She will even do the ‘Commando crawl’ on command. Sadly, not one of those is a skill that is tested in the Kennel Club Good Citizen scheme, which is what she is working towards.

Circus

It might be better if Pebbles joined a circus or maybe a class where they are tested on tricks. I can just imagine her nimbly walking a tightrope and utterly freaking Mum out. She just doesn’t want to do the boring stuff like walk to heel. I wonder if Mum could get her to walk on two legs to heel. That might fool Pebbles into doing it as she’d think it was fun and can walk on two legs. I’ll suggest it to Mum.

Love and licks
