Opinions on art

We seem to have different opinions on art. Dad wants more art in the house. He had no idea why I was upset by this. I’ve tried my hardest to make really good splatter patterns with the mud I’ve brought in, but oh no – apparently that is not good enough. He’d rather pay for a human to splatter paint on a canvas than have me do it directly onto the wall for no cost at all. Actually, he goes further in his prejudice. Where my art is concerned he expects to wash it off. How many times do I have to start again from scratch and watch my best endeavours simply washed away? It’s heartbreaking for a dog’s artistic side to be crushed like this. He should be encouraging me.

Compromise

I’ve suggested a compromise. Perhaps there could be one wall that I can use to develop my own artwork. I was thinking of having one of the walls in our garden room, but it turns out that’s the same wall that Dad was thinking of using. I just can’t win. What does a dog have to do to show the world how creative she is?

Prejudice

I’m starting to think there is rather more prejudice about than is helpful. Alfie was the one who used to campaign for equal rights. I thought all that was behind us in this day and age. Sometimes it’s tough being a dog. We do our best but are only expected to demonstrate our capabilities in a very narrow range of activities.

Perhaps by the time Pebbles grows up things will have improved. I wonder what talents she will want to develop and whether she will be appreciated. I guess only time will tell. Maybe I should have a chat with her about it.
