Trying to be good

My cries have been answered and now I’m trying to be good. Mum couldn’t bear hearing me crying so plaintively in my crate. Which means I can tick that one off my list of skills to master. Anyway, Mum caved in and has upgraded me to kitchen rest, on the proviso I remember I’m supposed to be resting. That’s the problem though. If the doorbell rings, how am I supposed to remember that I shouldn’t be answering it? When Dad comes in, I forget myself and rush to greet him.

Mum has told me in no uncertain terms that if I cannot remember I am supposed to be on crate rest then it won’t matter how much I cry, I will be back in my crate. I know she’s right but I just can’t stand this anymore.

Irrigation system

Mum’s plans for an irrigation system for the vegetables are not going well. To start with, quite sensibly, Mum only bought a small kit. She thought she’d better try and make it work before spending too much. As it turns out that was wise. She and Pebbles went out yesterday to set it up. To be fair, Pebbles went off and left Mum to it, which was probably as well. Mum decided to test it to make sure it worked to begin with. The good news is that the irrigation kit itself seems to work fine. The tap, on the other paw, is more of a problem.

The idea is that when the irrigation controller is set to off, no water flows. Unfortunately as the seals on the tap seem to be worn out, what actually happens is that the force of the water sprays water out through the seals in all directions. Now Mum needs someone to change the seals on the tap before she can get any further with the project. She may yet have to find a local teenager who needs to earn some holiday money to water the veg when she goes away. I’d offer to do it, but it’s not my strong point.
