Lions and Tigers – Tuesday 30th June 2026

Lions and Tigers

We are back to wondering if there are lions and tigers in the edges of our garden. To say that there are areas which resemble the jungle would be an understatement. Mum says this always happens in June. And we always wonder what might be living there. Thanks to my dementia, I did actually get lost in part of it yesterday. Mum had taken me out for one of my ‘constitutionals’. She is convinced they are good for me, I am not. Anyway, I’d wandered off down a shady path and then went behind a bush or two to find somewhere cool. And to follow the scent of next door’s cat, but I didn’t tell Mum that bit.

Bushes and brambles

Anyway, there I was, deep in the bushes and brambles and I couldn’t find my way out. I heard Mum calling, but my directional hearing isn’t what it used to be. I didn’t know whether I should go forwards or turn round and go back. There are so many brambles that turning round of any variety was going to be tricky. Then I started to wonder whether the smell really was next door’s cat or whether there might be something larger lurking in there.

It’s hard for Mum to find me when I’m frozen to the spot and daren’t bark in case something scary comes to get me. I’m not meaning Mum. She is scary, but that’s different.

Cracking twig

In the end I moved my paw and a trig snapped. Mum heard the rustle and didn’t seem at all scared it might be a lion or a tiger. She came much closer to call me out. She didn’t actually come in to get me, so maybe she wasn’t being that brave, but she kept calling until I found my way to her, so all was well.

Then she wonders why I’m not that keen to spend time outdoors. I’d say it was pretty obvious. There are no lions or tigers in the kitchen – just a Pebbles. Mind you, she can be pretty scary too.
