Calm and quiet – Friday 3rd July 2026

Calm and Quiet

Mum arrived home yesterday to find everything calm and quiet. We’d been fed and cared for and were both content dogs. Dad had done a great job and missed nothing. Mum said she should do it more often, although preferably not to go to the dentist.

One sensible thing that has come out of it is that Mum has now typed up our ‘daily care’ notes. It means all the information in her head can now be easily accessed by someone else to look after us if needed. Mum says she will work through it today to make sure she hasn’t missed anything important. Biscuits! That’s what she needs to add – more biscuits.

Rest day

Mum says she’d like a rest day today. Quite honestly, I doubt that very much. I’m happy to go with it. Now the question is where I can get her to rest. I’d like it to be somewhere I can sit with her, but as I’m not doing steps that rather limits things. Mum said we could use my ramp from the car, which is a good idea. The problem is that I don’t always think clearly. I see it in the way and try to jump over it. I’m used to it for the car, but when Mum puts it anywhere else it just looks all wrong and confuses me.

Maple Syrup

Mum’s latest hairbrained plan for the garden is to plant a sugar maple so she can make her own maple syrup. You just know this is likely to go wrong. I suppose the first problem is the number of years it will need to grow before being able to be tapped for the sap. I’m guessing a really young tree wouldn’t really appreciate it. She will probably go off the idea when she realises.
