Hard of hearing
I have become rather hard of hearing. It isn’t causing me too many issues, but it is making Mum walk further. Up close it isn’t too bad, but if I’m at the end of the garden and not looking at Mum then I don’t hear when she calls me. I say it’s good for her, but she’s not so certain. She is having to spend quite a bit of time wandering around the garden to see where I’ve got to. I pointed out that if she didn’t go off and do her own thing in the first place then she’d know exactly where I was.

Anyway, at this time of year I’m pretty easy to find. I will be under whichever apple tree is furthest advanced and dropping the nicest apples for me to eat. At the moment that is one right at the top of the orchard, but that can’t be helped.
Eating the veg
We have started eating this year’s veg. Yesterday homegrown courgettes, carrots and tomatoes were all on the menu. The only reason we didn’t have potatoes was because Mum had some shop bought ones that needed using up first. There is nothing nicer than being able to eat produce that only came out of the garden half an hour before the meal. It’s going to take us a fair time to get through it all. To be fair, some of the courgettes have forgotten they are only supposed to be small and could feed us for several meals.

Apart from the veg, which we’re watering, the garden is looking very sad and brown. Some of the plants won’t survive, but Mum says she really can’t justify watering more than the essentials. It’s rather sad really, but I guess that’s nature for you.
Love and licks
