Wilma’s vet check – Saturday 5th September 2026

Wilma’s Vet Check

Wilma’s vet check yesterday was very useful. She discussed all aspects of her health with the vet and came to a few conclusions. The good news is that the vet is very pleased with her blood sugar levels and they really are very stable. Wilma and Mum have done a great job following all the good advice they have received about diet and times of eating and that is working as well as it could at the moment. It wasn’t all good news though. Wilma’s lymph nodes in both her neck and groin are swollen, so there could be some progression of the cancer.

Pain control

At the moment the two biggest problems are Wilma’s arthritis and back issues and her cycling moods. The pain control has been harder as she had to come off the anti-inflammatory she was taking, as it would conflict with other medication. She also didn’t have her librela injection on time as she was too ill and Mum thought it better to postpone. She has now had her librela and the vet has added in a new pain medication that Wilma will start this morning. That one won’t have immediate effect, but it may help as it builds up.

Cycling moods

Wilma described her cycling moods to the vet and the fact she is barking a lot when she’s agitated. The vet says that could be the steroids, but from the pattern Wilma described it could be her dementia too. Mum had taken her off the supplements she was taking for her dementia in case they conflicted with her other drugs, but the vet said to put her back on them. Now we have to see if she will become more settled.

Mum is really hoping that they can get Wilma as settled as possible before I go home on Tuesday. Wilma will need a new blood sugar monitoring fitting on Tuesday too. They only last fifteen days

Then we have to take it a day at a time to see how Wilma gets on..
