No mow May – Tuesday 9th May 2023

No mow May

We are not deliberately taking part in ‘no mow May’. Our garden is full of plants (weeds) for the insects and bees, to the point where we are overrun. However, we can’t actually mow as the grass is much too wet. There seems to be a conspiracy going on between wildlife and the weather to stop us being able to mow if we want to. At the moment only Saturday and a week on Wednesday are forecast to be dry. That would be something if a) Mum was available to cut the grass on those days and b) she could cut all our grass in a day! This is not going to plan.

Nor is the planting. My seedlings are getting bigger and I want them in the ground. Mum has told me to do it myself, but that sounds like a recipe for disaster.

Wilma

Mum is concerned that Wilma seems to be making very slow progress. She doesn’t really know what to expect and it is probably still early days, but so far Wilma’s eye does not look as though it is anywhere near returning to normal.

On Thursday morning, Mum has to take a photo of the eye to send to the vet and then see what the next steps are. We’re guessing she will have to go for an appointment, but we don’t really know when. It really is taking a very long time to heal, but then I guess the operation was only last Thursday, so it just seems like ages due to all the time before that. Poor Wilma is rather resigned to it all now, but she really isn’t a happy dog.

Chocolate Brownie Withdrawal

We are having to tread very carefully around Mum at the moment. She’s weaning herself of chocolate brownies. It is not good to be around her at times like these. When she has sugar cravings she can be pretty scary. I said we should just feed her the brownies, but Wilma says we have to be strong and help her through. It will only be temporary until she relapses back into her sugar addiction. I suppose I should be glad it’s only sugar.
