Muscle Building
How do I go about muscle building as a dog? If I were a human I’d just go along to the gym and register with some fitness programme or other. Of course, what I’d really like to do is go swimming. That worked so well for Aristotle and Alfie. Unfortunately my consultant for my back told me that I’m not to go swimming, so that’s out at the moment too. Of course I can walk and I do love walking. The problem is that after around ten or fifteen minutes I’m limping and uncomfortable. What I need is some dog weight machines that can use different groups of muscles to help build strength and stamina. I suggested to Mum that we could work together to design some, but she didn’t think that was her best skill.
Role reversal
We have a sort of role reversal going on at night at the moment. Mum has some sleeping problems that I won’t bore you with. It means she’s up quite a lot at night. Now I’m not in my crate and can make my own mind up about where to sleep, I’m opting for sleeping in my crate in the office so I’m not disturbed when Mum keeps moving around.
However, I do make sure I sit with her until she goes to sleep to begin with. I know she takes comfort from having me near her, so I’m there to help her relax. As soon as she’s asleep, I get up quietly and move into the other room.
I know she’d like it if I was there when she woke up again, but there really is only so much I can do if one of us is going to get our beauty sleep. It would be nice if we could get back to both of us sleeping well, but we’re some way off that happening.
