The hedge cutting has started
The hedge cutting has started two days early. Mum works on the basis that the safest time to cut the hedges is between the end of September and the end of January. That’s when the birds are less likely to need them for nesting. If she needs to trim them at any other time she will only do it with the manual shears. Yesterday the weather was good, so she had a chat with the robin and agreed that it was fairly safe for her to make a start. We have a lot of hedges. There are hedges on every side of our very odd shaped plot of garden. Mum always starts in the same place – she’s a creature of habit, and works clockwise around the garden. The front hedge she has to do both sides of, so that slightly confuses the system. She always starts with the front so that it looks tidy.
Every dry day
From now on, on every dry day, as long as she can find at least half an hour spare, she will cut some of the hedge. I don’t like it when she’s working on the front because I can’t be out with her cheering her on. As soon as she gets to the back garden then I can help, but that could be a week or two.
On the bright side, we are also starting to get some of our things out of storage and put them in their new homes. That I can supervise, but so far none of my things have come back. If things go to plan Mum will go to pick some more boxes up later this week, so maybe then. I need to mark off when my beds come back and check they are all there. I’m campaigning for one of them to go in the hall so I can look at my mountain. That one has to wait until the work for the porch is finished.
In between all that I did have a lovely walk around the village with both my humans. The best bit was meeting a twelve month old Labrador. I so wanted to play. It was a good feeling meeting a dog and not feeling threatened. By the end of my walk, I was feeling on top of the world.
