Pebbles goes out
Today is the day that Pebbles goes out for the first time in public. It was going to be yesterday afternoon but Mum wasn’t too well and Pebbles was in an all teeth and excitement mood. Mum decided on balance it was going to be best for Pebbles’ exploration of the world to start today.
As Pebbles is only three months old she isn’t allowed to do too much exercise. It’s not good for her joints. If you saw her running around the garden you might find that surprising, but Mum says there is only so much she can do to make Pebbles be sensible. Normally, you reckon on five minutes of walking per month of life as we’re growing. That means Pebbles can have a fifteen minute walk today. To be honest, given she has so little training, Mum says fifteen minutes will be enough for everyone.
Training classes
It will be another week or so before Pebbles starts her training classes. She’s all booked in to begin on 11th February. Obviously, Mum is trying to do some training with her before that. In a morning Pebbles is doing quite well with walking to heel on a loose lead. In an afternoon, Pebbles prefers to have the lead in between her teeth and use it to play tug. You will be pleased to hear that her training classes are held in a morning, so Mum thinks there may be a small window of hope that they won’t be a complete disaster.
Kennels
The other thing which now needs to happen is for Pebbles to get used to going into kennels. It’s not that we have to stay in kennels often, but it is important that we’re used to it for the times it’s needed. To begin with Pebbles will have just a daytime there, so she knows that Mum is picking us up in the evening. Then we will do an overnight stay with Mum picking us up in the morning and after that a whole weekend. After that Pebbles will hopefully be confident that Mum will never leave us behind. It’s not too much of a shock to the system then.
It’s also important that we go to a kennels that will take a dog in season. If Pebbles is going to be a breeding dog then there may be times she is in season when we’re in kennels and it’s no good if they want to send her home at that point. A lot of kennels won’t take an in season dog, so it’s important to find out first.
Love and woofs
