Some improvement
Well there’s some improvement. You probably think I’m talking about Pebbles, but I’m actually talking about my eyes. It’s complicated. The good news is that the graft to repair the ulcers in my right eye has worked. It’s also good news that the tear rate in my left eye is now at normal levels. However, it wasn’t all good news. The tear rate in my right eye has improved, but because I was having the medication for the ulcers it meant I didn’t have the medication for tear production quite as often – so we have a way to go. The really bad news was that I now have another ulcer on my left eye. At the moment it isn’t too bad and so we’re hoping that with the contact lens I have and the medication that one might heal. If it doesn’t then I’ll be having another operation.
On the bright side, I’m now only on three different eyedrops twice a day (rather than four three times a day). It’s not great, but if it saves my eyes then it’s worth it. The problem is that I will always be on some of them.
To cone or not to cone
I don’t have to wear a cone as long as I don’t rub my eyes. I’m not doing so well with that one. Mum and I have had to compromise. At the moment I’m wearing my cone some of the time, especially after my eyedrops as some of them sting a little bit. You cannot imagine how nice it was to have the freedom to roll in the grass outside. I’ve been in a darkened room and outside only with a cone, which acts as a sun shade, so I was squinting a bit. Actually, my right eye was feeling pretty sort after all the prodding by the vet, but hopefully that will settle down.

I’m back with the specialist again on Friday next week and I’m crossing my paws that things will be moving in the right direction.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery Wilma. I am not a fan of the cone either – hope you will be free of it soon.
