Poor Heffalump – Saturday 3rd May 2025

Poor Heffalump

What has poor Heffalump done to deserve such treatment? He has slept with Pebbles every night since she moved to live with us. He’s put up with her snoring, her sucking his trunk and shaking him in frustration. Never once has Heffalump complained. Yesterday, the doors from the garden room into the garden were open. Pebbles ran three loops of the room, clutching Heffalump in her jaws and then poor Heffalump was carried by one leg out into the garden. He’s not designed for the garden. I could hear him whimpering as Pebbles threw him about in the orchard. Mum was worried he’d end up in the pond, but Pebbles, true to form, lost interest in him and left him abandoned on the grass.

Mum then had to distract Pebbles so she could mount a rescue mission without Pebbles taking control of the situation. I’m pleased to say, Heffalump is now safely back inside. He’s a little shaken, but will recover in time.

Cardboard

Don’t even get me started on the cardboard situation. Mum was preparing the cardboard to go in the recycling. Normally I help by just walking backwards and forwards to the bin with her. Pebbles had other ideas. She ran off with one of the cardboard boxes. She has now shredded it into a thousand pieces around the garden. On the upside it will fit in the bin more easily. On the downside, someone has to go around the garden and pick up all the pieces first. Mum has suggested that pebbles should do that, but she doesn’t seem keen.

A relief

It was a great relief talking to Mum yesterday. She says I get first dibs on going on the Swiss holiday as long as I’m well enough. It would have been awful if Pebbles had gone and I’d have been left behind. I do still need to be well enough and I’m working on that. I’ve got a few weeks to improve, so paws crossed. As it is, I’m missing out on a trip to Belgium, so I won’t get to see my friend Cookie, which I’m really sad about.

Love and licks
