Pond Obsession
Pebbles’ pond obsession went one paw too far yesterday. Mum noticed that Pebbles was lying in the middle of the lawn chewing on something that did not look familiar. These things always take a moment or two to register. Mum goes through the thought of process of ‘Is it Sloth? Is it Moose? Perhaps it’s Hoppig.’ Then the reality of the situation begins to dawn that it’s none of these and nothing she recognises as being ok for Pebbles to have. Then the Chewing Disaster Plan is activated.
Chewing Disaster Plan
Step one of the plan is to secure Pebbles either in her pen or indoors. Mum has long since learnt that trying to retrieve a forbidden item without doing that will only lead to a completely different type of disaster. Step 2 should come before step 1 but Mum always realises a little late. Whilst Pebbles is still chewing her prize, Mum has to go and cut up some emergency cheese to entice Pebbles away from whatever it is, so that she can go indoors or to her pen.
Step 3 of the Chewing Disaster Plan is to retrieve the item concerned. There are then two more steps in the process. Step 4 involves identifying what it is that Pebbles has and Step 5 is to assess the damage.
Damage Assessment

As it turned out yesterday, the item in question was a strip of pond liner. Yes, really. What Mum didn’t know was whether it was a loose piece that might have been covering a stone, and not integral to the base of the pond – that’s obviously Mum’s hope. The alternative is that Pebbles has already ripped it from somewhere where it should have been doing the job of stopping the water leaking out. Unfortunately, as the water in the ponds is so low, it could be many months before Mum actually finds out the answer to that. I suspect if that turns out to be the case, then our pond may be filled in rather than repaired. Now we just have to wait to see.
