Not going well – Friday 22nd May 2026

Not going well

Overall things are not going well. Nothing is ever simple. When you’re a puppy and you go to the vet you’re given some medicine and told you’ll be back to normal in no time. It is not so easy when you’re older.

I saw a lovely consultant yesterday. He asked me lots of questions before admitting me for my a CT scan. Mum had to leave me at that point and then come back for me later. I went in for 8.30 in the morning and I wasn’t discharged until about 6.45pm. Can you imagine how hungry I was by then? Mind you, I was a bit spaced out so it wasn’t too bad.

Before I had my CT scan they did an ECG to make sure my heart was ok and the good news is that it’s not doing too badly at all. That is at least one things we don’t need to worry about.

My back

The complication is that there is more than one thing wrong with my back. In simple terms it means that the consultant doesn’t know at this stage which is causing the pain. Firstly, the screws holding the plate in my back have moved slightly. He said the movement is only about 2mm, but that might be enough to cause the problem. He is going to talk to the surgeon who did my operation two years ago to see what he thinks.

However, there is another problem further along my spine. Just to make it more complicated that could be one of two things. It could be disc degeneration or it could be infection in the disc. If it’s infection then it is at an early stage and he wouldn’t expect the pain to be as great at this stage, but he is not certain. He now wants blood and urine samples analysed to try to be certain what is happening.

What next

I have to go back on Tuesday for sterile samples of blood and urine to be taken. It means Pebbles will miss her training, but Mum can’ t be in two places at once. I will have to go without breakfast – again! And, we have to be there for 8am. Goodness knows how Mum is going to be up in time to take me.

In the meantime I am on complete crate rest. I’m only allowed out for meals and toilet stops. This is not how I was expecting to spend my summer!

Love and licks
