Rain stopped play
Yesterday, rain stopped play – or at least outdoor play. We have been so lucky with how dry the weather has been this summer. Pebbles has benefited from being able to spend most of each day outdoors. She’s happiest outside and seems to feel much more in tune with her surroundings. Indoors it’s as though she just doesn’t understand the rules. She has no idea that just relaxing is a good way to spend the time. She lies down some of the time outdoors, but inside Pebbles needs constant entertainment.
Mum gave me a choice. Did I want to help entertain Pebbles or go to my bed in her office and stay out of the way for a while. Easy choice. Obviously I prefer being in the office with Mum there too, but a post lunch nap is quite well achieved on my own.
The kitchen

The kitchen becomes Pebbles’ play zone. She can get her toys out there and in the hall and utility. Mum has put everything else that was at floor level safely away so that nothing that matters gets destroyed. When Pebbles gets bored with whatever Mum has given her to do she then launches herself at Mum first from one side and then runs around and launches herself at Mum from the other side. She keeps doing that until she gets a response – and barks at Mum at the same time. Mum feels pummelled by the end of it.

We are trying hard not to give in to every demand Pebbles makes, but to be honest I really wish Mum would go for the quiet life option sometimes. It can get pretty noisy when I’m trying to sleep.
Day two
Yesterday was day two of Pebbles’ new medication. So far there is no evidence of improvement. Hopefully it’s only a matter of time. A friend asked Mum what she’s going to do if the medication doesn’t help? Mum usually thinks through all possibilities, but her answer to that was ‘It has to work. I simply can’t contemplate it not working.’ Let’s hope she’s right.
