A family day – Friday 8th May 2026

A family day

Today I’m having a family day. When my brother, Salvo, came to our house a couple of weeks ago, he suggested we should take our humans for a walk together. So that is exactly what we are going to do today. There will be Salvo, my niece, Izzy, their humans, my humans and rather reluctantly Pebbles. It’s me that is reluctant about that one, not Pebbles herself. As you might imagine, Pebbles is beside herself with excitement.

Pebbles gets over-stimulated very easily, so Mum has to be very careful about where she walks. We are going to Kedleston Hall. It’s is a National Trust Property and we’re hoping it will be manageable for Pebbles.

Staying safe

Mum has decided that safety is paramount. Pebbles will wear her harness that does up in three places so she can’t wriggle out of it. She will also wear her muzzle. Thankfully she has got completely used to it and for the cost of a squirt of squeezy cheese, is quite happy to put it on. One of the ways that Pebbles reacts if she is over stimulated is not to be able to control her instinctive behaviour. That means she herds Mum, not by rounding her up, but by jumping up and ‘grab-biting’ her arm, back, side – whatever she can reach first. It is not an aggressive bite, and isn’t done to break the skin, but it does leave Mum with some horrendous bruises.

Anyway, to give Pebbles more freedom, Mum has trained her to wear a muzzle and quite honestly, all parties are happy with the arrangement. Mum has said that if it does get too much for Pebbles she will take her back to the car. I shall stay with Dad and carry on walking, so I don’t really mind.

Anyway, Mum
