School Day – Tuesday 17th February 2026

School Day

Today is a school day. Pebbles will take Mum to stand outside in a freezing cold field. She will then proceed to cooperate only as long as Mum hands out the cheese or pate. Every so often she will do a commando crawl through the mud then hurl herself at Mum. And repeat. Pebbles will come home with her tongue dangling out of the side of her mouth, as happy as anything. Mum will come home covered in mud and looking as though she’s been quite literally dragged through a hedge. One of them will be chattering away about everything she’s been doing. One of them will be swearing through the tears. Every Tuesday it’s the same.

My turn

Once Mum is feeling thoroughly worn out it will be my turn to cheer her up. I shall take her along to my swimming lesson. On the plus side, we are in a warm room. We also have a lovely hydrotherapist who Mum enjoys talking to while I do my stuff on the treadmill. There will be absolutely no mud involved and no need for swearing.

After all that Mum tends to want to put her feet up for a bit. I really can’t think why. We’d rather go outside with her to play. For reasons I can’t explain, I’ve taken a liking to wading through the water in the rose garden. When I say ‘water’ I obviously mean mud. Mum is getting a bit cross about it, but I suggested to her that she should try it herself. I’m finding the squelching very satisfying. When the mud goes between your toes you can then make the most amazing paw print pattern. You can make it go on for quite a number of repeats across the floor inside, before you run out of mud.

Love and licks
