Possible improvement

After a really rocky start at home, Wilma is showing some possible improvement. On Wednesday Mum had to ring the vet twice to discuss what on earth to do. Wilma’s blood sugar kept dropping whatever Mum tried. Wilma had a little diarrhoea and was clearly miserable. Just before bed, the vet suggested cooking Wilma some pasta, as that would release glucose slowly over the night. Mum can now confirm that Wilma does not like pasta. I said she should have tried something easier than spaghetti, but it was a bit late by the time she rang me. She’d worked that out for herself.

Thursday morning

Although Wilma was more stable overnight, she didn’t want to eat on Thursday. Mum was beside herself not knowing what to do. On the plus side, Wilma did two large poos which were fairly normal when she went outside first thing. All she ate was a little bit of food from Mum’s hand. Mum was terrified her blood sugar was going to drop again, but despite not eating a lot, with a couple of blips it was more stable. For lunch, Mum cooked Wilma chicken, rice and steamed marrow. Wilma still wouldn’t eat. She even spat out a piece of chicken! On the plus side she did another poo.

Thursday afternoon

Wilma seemed quite miserable early afternoon. Mum was all set to ring the vet if she couldn’t get Wilma to start eating. The odd thing was though that Wilma’s blood sugar was more stable. At teatime she wouldn’t eat. Mum took her for another walk around the garden. Pebbles did her fourth big poo of the day. Mum had no idea where she was finding it all from. Then she came in and at the bowl of kibble Mum had put down for her. She didn’t eat the bowl of chicken, rice and marrow, but she did want her kibble. Then she barked at Mum when it was her tablet time – that’s the first time she’s done that.

She was clearly feeling brighter because she said she wanted to sit somewhere other than the kitchen. They moved to the garden room where Wilma promptly climbed onto the chair and went soundly off to sleep.

When Mum spoke to me, she was hoping that Wilma would stay comfortable through the evening so they could both have an early night. I think Mum is now as tired as Wilma. I’m hoping it all means she can writer her own diary too, but I don’t know yet.
