Talking to Mum
I’ve been talking to Mum and it’s made me think. Normally I’m more of an action girl rather than a thinking one. Act first, think later – or more to the point, don’t bother thinking at all. Mum has explained that for her that is going to be a bit of a problem.
For over twenty years, one of Mum and Dad’s dogs has been Mum’s special companion. First there was Alfie and then Wilma took over the role. Mum has explained that in life, she really needs a partner in crime. The problem is I’m more likely to kick Mum’s side than be her side-kick. And I’m not really sure I’m ready to change.
Different relationships
Dogs are all different characters and have different relationships with their humans. Mum says I’m a very different character and we’re even booked to go on a whole weekend course where I’ll be assessed.
When Mum has been ill, Wilma has sat on her bed and made sure she’s ok. Mum dubs her nurse Wilma as she does such a good job. I’m more likely to bounce on Mum in that situation and head-butt her back into action. Wilma has travelled to lots of places and even been to London by train and met the Swiss Ambassador. I felt a little rueful when Mum said there was no way she could risk introducing me to someone as important as that. She has a fair point.
Growing up
In two months time, I shall be two years old. Which reminds me, I must ask Mum where she is with organising my birthday party. The real point is, that I cannot see myself growing up and being ready to be an adult just yet. It’s just not how I’m wired. The reality is, that by the time I go home from kennels I’ll be pretty close to being an only dog and I’m not sure I’m ready for the pressure. It’s possible I’m going to have to redefine the role.
Wilma update
You won’t forgive me if I don’t tell you how Wilma is. She is stable, but not quite as good as she was the day before yesterday. The good thing is that the steroids are making her want to eat, so Mum is being able to get her medication into her and give her a number of small meals through the day. Mum is hoping that today might be a slightly better day for her blood sugar numbers and that they won’t get progressively worse at the moment. Paws crossed.
