Apple crops – Monday 27th May 2024

Apple crops

I’m worried about our apple crops. Dad doesn’t think there will be as many apples this year. What am I going to eat if there aren’t surplus apples? Ok, so last year I had to share what there were with Aristotle, but I actually liked having a buddy to share with. Mum is also talking about spending more time raking up any surplus apples so that I can’t help myself, which is just plain mean. I’ve thought about another problem too. Ari used to be the one to reach up and pull the pears off the tree. With my bad back I shouldn’t be doing it, so I guess I won’t be having the pears this year. I do wish Mum would hurry up and get me a puppy so I could train it in these important areas.

Leaving Mum to it

I’d overdone things a little on Saturday. It meant that yesterday I opted for some time indoors rather than supervising all the gardening. Mum was using the big strimmer anyway. When she does that I have to stay out of the way for safety. Mind you, she spent more time working out why it wasn’t working than actually using the strimmer. She sent Dad to look up on the internet why it wasn’t working. I think she plans to have another go with it today.

The general election

There’s at least one good thing about the general election being called in the UK. There was a bill going through Parliament to raise the age at which puppies could be imported to the UK. Now the bill has failed and will have to start again at some point in the future. It’s the second or third time that it hasn’t ended up becoming legislation. It’s good news for us as we need more of our breed to be imported and it’s hard to do it if we have to be six months old before we can come to the UK. Some of our Club had been campaigning for a special exemption for dogs being imported for breeding, but now we get a reprieve for a while. We’ll be ready to fight again if the legislation is introduced later.
