Groot’s puppy update
Today we have Groot’s puppy update. We have been talking to Groot regularly and her puppies are doing really well. She is the most amazing Mum and is looking after them brilliantly. They have all now passed the kilogram mark in weight and are beginning to open their eyes. Some of them are beginning to take their first tentative steps, although in a very Bambi like fashion.
Mum really likes seeing their colours starting to develop. Only our black fur shows at birth, but then the white and brown begins to show. Our noses start pink and then develop their black pigment.
Noses growing
When we’re born are faces are really flat so that it’s easy for us to suckle. It’s fascinating to watch our noses change shape as we grow up. To be honest, when we’re very small we really don’t look much like dogs at all.
They are at the age where they need to get used to lots of different noises and sensations so that they just regard them as everyday and normal. The more they get used to now, the easier they will find life later. Of course, it helps to keep up hearing different things. I have much too quieter life and I have to say I’ve lost some of my ability to deal with busy environments. Between you and me, I think Mum has too.
Early walks
I’m on early walks because of the heat at the moment. The lane I have been going down was so very beautiful first thing in the morning that I almost wondered if we should go that early all the time. There was something special about the world not having fully woken up to the day that’s quite hard to explain. It was as though the day itself still belonged to nature and hadn’t yet been spoiled by anyone.
