Help from my friends
The songs was right about getting by with help from my friends. Really, the world is a much better place for having friends. I’ve told you about Mum’s jumper. I know three years is a long time to take to knit a jumper, well that’s Mum for you. I’ve told you there’s a risk it’s lopsided, but Mum probably is too so that’s no big deal. Then I think I may have told you about the latest twist in the story. It looks as though Mum will run out of wool just before she runs out of jumper to knit.
Oh, you should have seen her face when she realised. She really didn’t want to start undoing it again to do things differently.
More wool
The obvious thing would be simply to get more wool from where the first lot came from. Unfortunately, somewhere in the four or more years since Mum bought the wool they have stopped making it. Mum tried searching for a different wool that might be similar. She couldn’t find one.
After that, we spent an evening together searching the internet for anywhere that may have a few balls left of the original wool. We found other colours. We found a similar colour in a completely different type of yarn. Eventually, we found two shops which had the right yarn in the right colour. There were just one or two small problems. One shop was in Romania and one was in The Netherlands and neither of them despatched their goods to the UK.
Cookie to the rescue
That’s when I had the idea to contact my friend Cookie in The Netherlands. We could have the wool sent to Cookie and then either collect the wool when I visit Cookie next year or see if Cookie’s human would help Cookie to post it to us. Mum and I feel very lucky to have such wonderful friends. The wool has safely arrived with Cookie and because Mum is so excited about finishing her jumper, it will be on its way to us soon. I think we owe Cookie some dog treats as a thank you.
Love
Wilma
