Walking to heel
Pebbles has been working hard on walking to heel. Needless to say, she does quite well when there are no distractions, but give her the least excuse and she utterly forgets what she’s supposed to do. She does understand how the whole reward system works and is much more focussed on her training when she’s feeling a little hungry. Mum is seriously thinking of not giving her any breakfast on the morning she goes to training, so that she’s more focussed on the food and less on other dogs.
Lightbulb moment
The whole working on walking to heel with Pebbles did give Mum a lightbulb moment. Years ago when having family holidays Mum and Dad would often visit museums with the children. The children would go through a museum quite quickly, reading very little and just looking at things. Dad on the other paw would want to read everything – and I do mean everything! Poor old Mum was always somewhere in the middle trying to keep track of everyone.
Finally, Mum has realised she should have used the same reward system with Dad as she does with Pebbles. Instead of pieces of kibble as a reward for staying by her side she thinks beer or crisps might have worked. Dad pointed out that most museums don’t allow food, so she might have had to try a squeaky toy or a Lego model kit as an alternative.
Entlebucher walk
In the end it’s Pebbles going on today’s walk. My eyes, while quite a bit better, aren’t really up to doing too much. I just want to curl up somewhere. Pebbles never wants to just curl up somewhere. Mum has no idea how she’s going to manage not walking Pebbles too far, or how she will cope in the chaos of being with other dogs, but she’s giving it a try.
Love and woofs
