Emergency surgery

Wilma had emergency surgery on her eye yesterday so I’m trying my paw at writing.

I’ve got a new turtle toy and it squeaks. Oh, Mum has just said I need to tell you about Wilma, but that’s not as exciting as my turtle. I can use the long neck to shake it. That’s where the squeaker is.

Oh yes, Wilma. She went to see about her dry eye problem and the vet found three ulcers on her right eye too. One was so deep that he told her it would be a very bad idea to sneeze or fart. That made me laugh. Wilma wasn’t laughing. She was the one at risk of losing her eye. So she was taken straight to surgery for an operation. She looks really weird now, with a big blue thing round her head.

Eye drops

Wilma hates eye drops. She has to have four different ones at least fifteen minutes apart, three times a day. She’s getting my best dog treats when she’s good. I don’t mind sharing. I wanted to stay by her crate and just make sure she was ok, but Mum said I was upsetting her. Mum has moved Wilma’s crate into the office so it’s away from me. It means I can’t go in the office, which isn’t fair.

If Wilma’s eye drops don’t work, she might have to have a big operation to create tear ducts from her saliva glands. If that doesn’t work, she might lose one or both of her eyes, which would be very hard.

Mantrailing

Have I told you about my turtle? Ok, yes, Mum says I’ve told you that. I was really good at my extra training class yesterday. It turns out I’ll do anything for sardines. Mum is now buying me my own tins of sardines. I hope she doesn’t give those to Wilma. Anyway, the trainer is running a mantrailing introduction day – that’s about searching for someone. She says I can try it out. I’m really excited.
