Two important things – Thursday 7th May 2026

Two important things

There are two important things to know about Mum. Firstly, she’s not a bad cook. Secondly, she’s clumsy. From a dog’s point of view, there is no cook like a clumsy cook. When you combine that with the fact that thanks to Mum’s allergies, she’s almost always cooking things which are additive free and safe for dogs to eat, and you can understand why we encourage her as much as possible. Yesterday, Mum was making her oat cereal. That is one of the best recipes for her getting it everywhere. If it weren’t for how much I enjoy eating it, I’d suggest she used a bigger mixing bowl.

This weekend, we have a family meal here. That is always good news. Mum is notorious for overcatering. There is usually something left over that we can offer to assist with. Of course, where possible Mum and Dad eat what’s left themselves, but there are always things that don’t taste quite so good if kept.

Today’s forecast

Today’s forecast is ‘mainly gardening with a slight chance of overdoing it’. We planted the potatoes yesterday. That took longer than we thought it would. Having said that, it was partly Mum’s fault for having so many. Today I think we’re going to finish getting the bedding plants in and carry on mowing, grass edging and weeding.

Mum is having a bit of a problem with Pebbles when she’s bending down to pick up grass cuttings. Pebbles thinks it’s funny to run up and head-butt Mum when she’s bending over. Mum is now threatening Pebbles with being confined to her pen or staying indoors unless she stops doing it. The problem is that Pebbles seems to find it funny. It isn’t going to end well – most likely for Mum!
