The olives are alive
The olives are alive. It was such a happy day yesterday finding we hadn’t lost them. Mum thinks they’d been missing the lemons and once we put the lemons back outside they began to recover. I think she’s spent too long talking to the plants, but we won’t dwell on that one. Our friends Salvo and Izzy said they had had the same problem with their olives. Their Mum had cut away the dead wood, giving them a good prune and was hoping for good news.
Anyway, yesterday Mum and I went out to see about pruning ours. It’s a little late but Mum didn’t think we’d got anything to lose. She cut a branch that looked dead and it wasn’t. The inside looked very much alive. That was when she went and changed her glasses so she could look more closely at the branches. Sure enough there are little shoots appearing all over the place. We were so happy that we put the secateurs away before we did more harm than good.
Sunflowers
Mum helped me plant some of my sunflowers into a pot. She said I need to remember to water them now so that they grow. They are only short ones, but they will look cheerful once we’ve grown and they’re in a pot near my favourite place to lie outside. She’s asked me to use the watering can to water them. She was less than thrilled when she asked me to go out to do the watering on Friday and I went straight out and peed liberally on the spray nozzle of the hosepipe. She said that was most certainly not what she meant and insisted on washing it before she used it. When giving me instructions she really does need to be more specific.
