The Saga of the Suitcase – Friday 1st August 2025

The saga of the suitcase

Did I tell you the saga of the suitcase? A week last Sunday, Dad went to Houston to work for a few days. His suitcase didn’t leave Terminal 2 at Heathrow with him, but stayed with a few thousand other suitcases that didn’t make their flights. The airport had a problem with the luggage belt, so the poor suitcases were left behind. On the Wednesday Dad left Houston and went to Dallas. That was when his suitcase made it to Houston and missed him. He spoke to the airline and tried to arrange to meet up with his suitcase either when he was briefly passing through Houston airport or back at Heathrow when he landed, but for some reason they said that wasn’t possible.

Apple Airtag

Thanks to having an Airtag in his luggage, Dad was able to keep an eye on where his suitcase was. The next thing he knew was when it went to a small airport in Michigan. He rang the airline and asked if it was on its way to England. The airline didn’t know it had gone to Michigan, but thanks to Dad’s call were able to track it down. It wasn’t supposed to go there at all.

On Wednesday this week, Dad was able to see the case leaving for Chicago. Then yesterday the doorbell rang and there on the doorstep, after a very exciting holiday, was the suitcase. Home safe and sound and just a little grubby around the edges.

I think the suitcase might have gone off flying after all that. Mum says it now deserves a well-earned break at home. She may be saying that because it’s actually her suitcase and Dad was only borrowing it. Either way, it is definitely glad to be home.

    • Oh dear, Dexter, you really need to work harder on his toilet training. It’s never too late to start.
