Lavender
Not that I have problems sleeping these days, but at the moment the kitchen smells of lavender and it’s hard to stay awake. Mum is busy harvesting all the ears of lavender. She has already allowed them to dry and is now putting all the smelly bits into sealed containers. It’s a lovely smell, but really very relaxing. I suggested she should add a lavender bag or two to Pebbles collar, so that she can smell it all the time, but Mum said she couldn’t see that working.
Mum says she wants to harvest some herbs for cooking too. The best way to preserve those is to freeze them in ice cubes. That way it’s like using the fresh herb when you come to cook with it, rather than drying it and finding it loses some flavour.
Sheep
Pebbles had a very funny moment on her walk yesterday. There she was, investigating a hedge, when there was a very loud ‘baa’ from the other side of the hedge, which made her visibly jump. There hadn’t been any sheep in the field the day before, so Pebbles just wasn’t expecting it. The whole incident reminded Mum of something quite similar happening with Andrew, one of our human brothers, when he was quite young. Pebbles doesn’t know our human siblings very well, so I started telling her what it was like living with Andrew when I was younger. It made me realise how much I miss having him around.
Early lunch
We’re on an early lunch today, so that Mum can go out at lunchtime. I’ve asked if she can write a big notice for me to remind me that I’ve already eaten. It’s one of the things I’m having difficulty with. I do get a very rumbly tummy and sometimes I can’t actually remember if I’ve had a meal or not. I always ask for another to be on the safe side, but Mum usually says no. She doesn’t want me putting weight on.
I’ve just changed the food I eat for a fish based one and I must say I really like my new one very much.
Love and licks
