Catching up – Saturday 2nd May 2026

Catching up

We’re catching up on planting. Mum and I have potted all the squash and courgettes now. We’re moving on to the carrots today and then the dahlias tomorrow I think. Mum has moved all the compost, so we’ve started dismantling the old compost bin. We’ve also weeded the herb garden that Mum planted with all the presents she had for her birthday last year. She has lost two plants during the winter, which isn’t bad all things considered. The good news is that there are three spare ones in one of the troughs which are ready to fill the gaps.

I’ll be honest. I was finding working yesterday much too warm. I found a shady patch of grass where I could observe Mum from. Even Pebbles took that approach when she was outside. Although, in the case of Pebbles she was rooting around to see what she could find in the grass and for that matter under the grass.

Progress on the railway

Mum has also achieved a little progress on the railway project. While Dad has been away, Mum has finished cutting and gluing the cork base layer. She is now ready to move onto the more exciting step of putting down the lower level track. The lower level will give Dad something to run trains on, while Mum works on the scenery and building up what is needed for the higher level track. I’ll be honest, I have no idea how all this works and if I were to hazard a guess, I don’t think Mum really has either. On the bright side, it’s indoors and there’s a comfy bed in there. I am more than happy to keep an eye on things while mum tries to work out each stage of the operation.

Dad will be home this morning so at least I’ll have one human who doesn’t feel the need to work all the time.

Love and licks
