Duncliffe Wood – Saturday 9th September 2023

Duncliffe Wood

Yesterday we discovered Duncliffe Wood. It’s only a couple of miles from where we’re staying and is a large woodland area with paths and bridleways. We went in the morning before the day warmed up and then again in the evening when it was hot, but overcast so not nearly as bad as it had been. Walking under the canopy of the trees meant it was cooler too. We did see other dog walkers, but it wasn’t too busy and there was a dog bin, which always helps.

The best bit was that Mum managed to stay on her feet, so although she’s got some good bruises from Thursday she hasn’t added to them.

I spent the rest of the day in our nice cool cottage lying in a sunny spot snoozing. A lovely day all round really.

Today’s excitement

Today is the exciting day of the trip. This is what it’s all been about really. I’m just hoping that the weather isn’t too hot for us to follow our plans. We’re off down to Sidmouth to meet friends and family. If things go to plan Shadow’s daughters Soggi and Cracker will be there and her son Otto. Cinders was going to come too, but she’s unwell so staying at home. Then there’ll be my half-brother Salvo, my niece Izzy and our friend Ruby. Obviously I went on holiday with Salvo, Izzy and Ruby but we haven’t seen the others for a number of years – not since my puppyhood. I do hope they remember me.

It’s a shame that Aristotle isn’t with us, but it would be far too hot for him anyway. He struggles with heat at the best of times. I spoke to him earlier and he’s busy ordering an extra vegetable trough to plant up next year.

Love
