My leg – Friday 22nd March 2024

My leg

I had a long chat with the vet about my leg. Mum helped me explain everything I’ve tried so far. We have already gone through resting it completely, taking anti-inflammatories and using a knee brace for support. The problem has not gone away. The vet moved my leg in all different directions and I did my best to put a brave face on it. She could see it had been hurting from where I’d been chewing it.

The first thing she said was that it didn’t immediately present as being my cruciate ligament. Mum had already said that to me, so we weren’t surprised by that. What the vet doesn’t know is exactly what the cause is.

Next steps

We talked through the next steps. For one thing we need to rule out anything nasty in the bone. I could have an x-ray and that would show some of the possibilities, but it wouldn’t show anything more complex. Having a CT scan is much more expensive, but it would tell us much more about what’s happening. Because Mum doesn’t want me to have more anaesthetics than absolutely necessary, we’ve decided to go straight to the CT scan in an attempt to get a definitive answer. I’m booked in for Tuesday and have to be there for eight in the morning.

You know that for me the worst part is going to be going without breakfast. Mind you, I was disappointed when I got on the scales as I don’t seem to have lost anymore weight. I thought by now I’d be wasting away, but it seems not. I guess I’ll be eating diet food for a long time yet, which is unfortunate, whichever way I look at it. On the bright side, Mum did feed me some extra pieces of food to help keep me quiet in the waiting room. Sadly she won’t be able to do that on Tuesday.

  1. Hope all goes well with the CT scan Wilma. Bernie knows what it’s like to have a painful limp, although he wasn’t chewing his leg. X-rays ruled out arthritis so it was lead walking only for a very long time and carefully managed off lead exercise all the time now. Yumove is a very good supplement for dealing with stiff joints in older dogs. Bernie’s paws are crossed for you ?

    • Thank you. I’m already on both Yumove and Curcupet K9 (Turmeric). And Metacam and paracetemol!
I’m just hoping we find out what is going on
      Love and licks
