Not quite as unstable
Wilma’s blood sugar was not quite as unstable yesterday as it was the day before. Mum is also beginning to understand some of the pattern of what is happening. There are a number of times in the day when Wilma’s blood sugar crashes. Mum has realised that it happens around two to two and a half hours after eating. Following yet more research that is normal in either the early stages of an insulinoma or in some specific types. What we don’t know yet is whether the steroids will stabilise what is happening. Mum has been advised that it can take a week before they start to work properly, which won’t be until Friday.

4am biscuit
The funny thing is that one of the times Wilma’s blood sugar crashes is 4am. That’s now happened two days running. As Mum wants to go back to sleep, the best solution is to give Wilma something to eat. Wilma was less surprised on day two when she received half a Bonio at four in the morning. She munched it very happily and went back to sleep. It takes Mum a little longer to go back to sleep because she’s worrying.
Bran
While Wilma is very happy about extra biscuits, she is less happy about having bran added to her food. Apparently, if her food goes through her system a little more slowly, it might help to stabilise things. The funny thing is, that the steroids are making her so hungry, that after making a short complaint to Mum about the food not being what she asked for, she promptly ate it all. Now Mum has to see if that helps.
On a brighter note
On a brighter note, Mum has been harvesting more tomatoes. So far, apart from the ones she has eaten with meals, she has harvested three and a half kilos of tomatoes, which she has turned into passata and frozen ready to make into soup. She thinks there will be at least another couple of kilos too. Maybe that will go some way to make up for the potatoes.
