Clear instructions

If Mum doesn’t leave clear instructions she can’t blame me for taking advantage of an opportunity. She left me at the kennels with my meals in little bags marked ‘Breakfast’, ‘Lunch’, ‘Tea’. What she forgot to do was tell the lady that I’d already had my breakfast and it was her intention that the bag marked breakfast was for today. What’s a girl to do in that situation? After Mum had gone the lady at the kennels asked me if I’d had my breakfast yet. I looked her straight in the eye and with the best innocent expression a dog can pull, I said ‘No, the breakfast bag was for immediate consumption.’

Mum will only realise her error when she picks me up and is told that I haven’t had anything to eat this morning.

Dilemma

Of course, Mum will realise that the mistake is hers for not explaining. I’d had two breakfasts yesterday. Her dilemma then will be whether to give me breakfast as soon as we get home or to make me go without until lunchtime. Thankfully, Mum is a soft touch and whilst I might be constantly on a diet, she isn’t so mean as to make me go without a meal altogether. Another win for the dog.

The moral

The moral of this story is firstly to ensure that all instructions are clear and precise. The more important lesson is to remember to think like your dog if you are ever to stay one paw ahead of us. Mum is usually pretty good at that one, but must have been distracted. I see this as good practice for Mum ahead of Pebbles joining our little gang. When we are back to there being two of us, she will really need to be on her toes.
