Travelling home
Well I’m travelling home and looking forward to getting there. We set off just after nine yesterday morning. It was a beautiful day and for a moment I think we all thought about staying. We thought that even more when we got caught up in a traffic jam caused by roadworks just outside Basel. Usually we sail straight through that stretch – except the time Mum was in the wrong lane and we were heading for Germany instead of France.
Anyway, eventually we got through the roadworks and crossed the border into France. Strangely we left Switzerland in bright sunshine and arrived in France in cloud. Thankfully it was only like that for the first 50 miles or so of France and then it was a lovely day.
Fuel stop
Our fuel stop nearly went wrong. We arrived just in time for their card machine operations to stop working. We could still put fuel in the car as long as we paid in cash. Mum had five euros. That wasn’t going to buy much diesel for the car. Thankfully Dad had squirrelled away an emergency stash of notes and we mustered enough to put a few litres in the tank. It was at least enough to get us to a filling station that was taking credit cards.
Overnight stop
It was good to arrive at our overnight stop and see my little Jack Russell friend. He was waiting for us almost as though he knew we were coming. I wasn’t completely settled for the evening, but at least I wasn’t as agitated as I had been in the place we stayed in Switzerland. Life will be much less confusing when I am home in my familiar surroundings. I think Mum is right when she says I’m not going to be able to travel again. We’re both very sad about it, but it’s the only decision we can reach.
Love and licks
